West of Dubrovnik, hugging the coast, lie the three inhabited Elaphite Islands: Koločep, the closest, then Lopud, then Šipan, the largest. Jadrolinija's passenger boat on line 807 strings them together, leaving Gruž harbour and finishing at Suđurađ on the eastern end of Šipan. Monday–Saturday departures from Gruž are 10:00, 14:00, 16:30 and 20:00; Sundays and holidays have just 09:30 and 20:00.
Coming back, the timetable suits islanders heading into town: the first boat leaves Suđurađ at 06:00 on weekdays and reaches Gruž at 07:15, and the last one leaves at 17:50. Every sailing calls at all three islands except the 15:20 from Suđurađ, which skips Lopud; Lopud passengers for Dubrovnik board at 15:00 instead.
A car ferry, line 831, covers the same islands four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday). It is the only way to take a vehicle, and only to Šipan; on foot it costs €3.20, twenty cents less than the boat.

€3.40 to whichever island you pick
On boat 807 an adult pays €3.40 from Dubrovnik to Koločep, Lopud or Suđurađ alike until 31 December, against €5.40 in summer, and €2.50 between two islands. Child fares (ages 3 to 12) depend on the destination: €1.80 to Koločep, €1.90 to Lopud and €2.10 to Suđurađ. Bikes travel at the adult passenger price.
The car ferry is marginally cheaper on foot, at €3.20. A standard car below five metres pays €17.70 from Gruž to Suđurađ, with the driver ticketed on top. Vehicles are not loaded or unloaded on Lopud, and Koločep is closed to traffic except with a special permit, with no parking on the island.

Gruž, Donje Čelo, Lopud and Suđurađ
Dubrovnik – Gruž harbour
The Elaphite boats leave from Gruž, Dubrovnik's main passenger port, not from the little old harbour under the city walls. Jadrolinija's office is at Obala Stjepana Radića 40, open 08:00 – 20:00 Monday to Thursday and Saturday, until 22:00 on Fridays, and 08:00 – 11:00 and 19:00 – 20:00 on Sundays and holidays. If you are staying inside the walls, allow time for the bus or taxi out to Gruž.
Suđurađ harbour, Šipan
Suđurađ, at the eastern end of Šipan, is where both the boat and the car ferry finish. Šipan's other harbour, Šipanska Luka at the western end, is served by a different line; Jadrolinija says a bus links the two villages. On Koločep the boat docks at Donje Čelo and on Lopud along the Ivo Kuljevan quay. The small ticket offices on all three islands open half an hour before each sailing.
Westward from Gruž along the island chain
The Elaphites run west from Dubrovnik close to the mainland. Leaving Gruž, the boat calls first at Donje Čelo on Koločep, the nearest island, then at Lopud, and ends at Suđurađ on the eastern tip of Šipan. On the timetable the 10:00 from Gruž reaches Suđurađ at 11:15. No distances are published by AOLPP or Jadrolinija.
Planning an Elaphite day out
- Go to Gruž
Both Elaphite lines leave from Gruž harbour. The boats in the old harbour under the walls go to Lokrum, not to these islands.
- Two ticket rules
On boat 807 the ticket is for the departure you choose. On car ferry 831 it is valid for any sailing on the date printed on it.
- Leave the hire car
Lopud has no cars and Koločep is closed to traffic. Only Šipan takes vehicles, by the car ferry to Suđurađ.
- Lopud and back in a day
Take the 10:00 from Gruž (Lopud 11:00) and come back on the 18:10 from Lopud on weekdays, or the 18:20 on Sundays.
- Weather
If the car ferry cannot sail on a Monday or Wednesday because of weather, its timetable says it runs the same schedule the next day.
AOLPP, the state body that buys island transport, has contracted Jadrolinija for both lines. Šipan also has a second harbour, Šipanska Luka at the western end, which is a stop on TP Line's catamaran from Gruž to Sobra on Mljet; Jadrolinija says a bus connects the two villages, so you can arrive on one line and leave on the other.
For a short hop from the old town there is the boat to Lokrum from the harbour under the walls, which does not use Gruž. The Elaphites are a longer outing: the 10:00 from Gruž is at Koločep at 10:30 and at Lopud at 10:55, and you need to plan around the return, because the last weekday boat off the islands leaves Suđurađ at 17:50, or 18:00 on Sundays.
Koločep, Lopud and Šipan out of season: visitors' questions
Where do boats to Lopud and Koločep leave from in Dubrovnik?
From Gruž harbour. Neither the boat on line 807 nor the car ferry on line 831 uses the old harbour under the city walls.
When is the boat due at each island?
On the timetable the 10:00 from Gruž reaches Koločep at 10:30, Lopud at 10:55 and Suđurađ at 11:15. The car ferry from Gruž at 09:00 gets to Lopud at 10:25.
Can I visit Lopud as a day trip?
Yes. Take the 10:00 from Gruž, and come back on the 18:10 from Lopud (Monday to Saturday) or the 18:20 (Sundays), which reach Gruž at 19:05 and 19:15.
